Is there such a thing as a “Back Problem”?

Is there such a thing as “back problem”? The truth is, it’s all connected.

I had a man in his 70’s come to our office a little over a week ago with a “back problem”. Let’s call him “Hank”. Hank had a sharp pain in lower back that had just started 3 days ago and it was quite intense. I asked him if he had ever had trouble in this area before. “No, it just started 3 days ago”. 70 years old and only had back pain one time? It sounded a little too good to be true. Within the next 5 minutes, more of the story began to unfold.

You see, Hank had a “hip problem” that had been going on for over 10 years. Some good days, some bad. And then there was the other side of his back that went into spasm back in the 80’s, sometimes for weeks on end. Yes, Hank did miss work for several months one time in 1987. And last but not least there was the lower back surgery done in 1978, but that was for a L5 disc issue, not Hanks current “back problem”.

In today’s Fast Food Society we have been programmed to think things occur overnight. I would put forth to you that there is no such thing as a “back problem”. There is no such thing as a “neck problem”. There is, however, something called a “body problem”. You cannot move one structure in the body and not affect the others. If I push your right shoulder back, what happens to your left shoulder? How about your right knee? Your left big toe?

Hank had a “body problem” that had been present for at least 40 years. In NUCCA care we seek the source of the problem. Pressure on Hanks brainstem had distorted his posture. Over the years this created “back problems” and “hip problems”… even some digestive issues. Luckily, removing the pressure on the brainstem gets people feeling better far quicker than the amount of time it took to create the problem. In fact, Hank’s pain was 80% better in 5 days his first NUCCA Spinal Correction. Now, we’re working on actually fixing his “body problem”.
